Christian Therapy

91133411Therapy comes in many flavors.

What kind of help do you want in the middle of your hurting? Do you want the most profound possible help, or will you be satisfied with something more superficial? Furthermore, how will you know the difference?

Unfortunately, the types of therapy available are numerous. One website declares, “There are over 400 types of therapy.”

Of all these, the most popular and enduring is under the banner of “psychology.” Thus, many people go to psychologists, psychiatrists, or some other kind of psychologically based therapist for help.

What does psychology imply?

Curiously, when you understand the original meaning of psychology, you will find that it means literally “the study of the soul.” Regrettably, this is anything but the case because studying the soul requires a willingness to examine the source of all truth, God himself.

Jesus clarifies this point by declaring in John 18:37, “I have come into the world, to testify to the truth.” Jesus also says about himself in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Understanding the soul is where Christian therapy comes into play, and such a therapeutic approach is synonymous with Biblical therapy. Just because someone declares they are a Christian does not mean that they are doing Christian/Biblical therapy.

Christian/Biblical therapy provides foundational answers because the Bible is the guidebook to truth. The question then becomes, “Do I measure up to God’s standard of truth rather than some standard that someone else has declared, or have I decided that I have the truth?”

In our postmodern world that “constructs” truth, we can recognize that foundational truth is “declared” by God rather than some other “popular truth.” We will find ourselves wanting when we examine ourselves according to God’s standard, word, and the Bible.

If you want to seek the truth as your foundation, Your Family Matters is the place to be.

Here, we seek the “truth” and use it as a measuring stick against what the world has hoodwinked us to believe is true. In this, you can find “rest for your soul.”
