Being a Christian is a gift from God.
So, you’ve decided to see a Christian therapist. Great! But you’re still wondering, “Is this person a Christian?” Or let’s say that you wonder, “Am I a Christian?”
Let’s make that clear for you right now. Several decades ago, I finally concluded that I indeed was a “sinner.” Furthermore, I realized that on my own, I would never qualify for going to heaven.
That is when I finally understood the “Gospel.” The word “Gospel” actually means good news. Until then, I believed I needed to be good enough to go to heaven. I was, however, excited to learn that my work and good living would never be sufficient.
I learned this from Scripture.
Ephesians 2:8–9 (NASB95) says the following:
8 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 – not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
This news was a heartening thing for me to learn. Additionally, I saw that the simplicity of being a Christian was not based on what I did but on what I believed.
See John 3:16 (NASB95) – “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
Here’s what else I believe.
If you wonder what else I believe, let me summarize it.
I believe in the following: the Trinity; the full deity and humanity of Christ; the spiritual lostness of the human race; the substitutionary atonement and bodily resurrection of Christ; salvation by faith alone in Christ alone; the physical return of Christ; and the authority and inerrancy of Scripture.
Finally, you might wonder who I am most successful in working with as a therapist. The answer is anyone willing to look at their problems in life in the light of the Bible‘s truth rather than the world’s conception of truth.
